The riviere necklace was first worn in the Georgian era. The term riviere means river in french. The continous links all around the neck gives a sense of flow.
Anna Wintour loves this style of necklace.
This example dates to around 1900 and features deep green paste that is bezel set in closed back mountings. Possible there is foil behind the paste but under the loupe I can't be sure. The links measure approx. 12.40 x 9.35 mm each. The backs are closed and domed. The clasp is a hidden box with paste set on top. The clasp holds and there is a safety chain.
Overall the necklace is in very good antique condition-please note there are some dents to the sides-nothing alarming and very typical for a piece this age. The paste is very good-just the slightest facet junction wear under loupe. By eye and really looking I found two slight chips to a facet junction.
No marks but tested as silver --most likely between 830-925. It was really dark with tarnish and with a little polish with cloth brighten quickly.
15.5 " length.
A rare collectors piece.
Layaway available.
