14K yellow gold ring (stamped in shank -14K and verified) set with a doublet sapphire measuring approx. 9 x 7 mm, approx. 2.5 cts, securely set by prongs. This doublet is comprised of a natural sapphire table on most likely lighter corundum. I can't access the pavilion to check but the majority of these rings from this time period were all corundum. Why a doublet-maker's use a sliver of a great natural sapphire and add to corundum to create a large looking gemstone for a lot less money. Most people can't even tell -but I am GIA trained and always check for this when viewing larger sapphires. No one else will know unless they look at it under magnification -so it can be our secret.
The sapphire is a medium dark navy blue and in very good preowned condition. The setting features round brilliant cut diamonds weighing approx. 1 ctw. They are clean under the loupe. The ring is 18.58 mm wide and sits up off finger 8.38 mm. The gemstone is very reflective so you are seeing a lot of reflection in the stone. Gemstones are securely set. Back of shank is 3 mm wide.
Overall a substantial ring with a pretty color sapphire in very good preowned condition.
