This is a great design for people who want to wear antique jewelry but are afraid that they might damge it. The gypsy setting is strong, secure and it doesn't snag on fabrics. It comfortable, can stack with other rings.....its a piece you will want to wear everyday.
This beauty dates to the turn of the 19th century and features an approx. .90 ct old European cut diamond. The table is smaller and though its hard to know for sure since its bezel set it is pretty round shape. It could possibly be an old mine as the open culet does look like an old mine. Best to say it is definitely an olde cut. The diamond is securely bezel set. The weight is estimated as its hard to tell who much of the diamond is under the bezel. I've had to remove a few diamonds out of gypsy settings and I am always shocked how much bigger the diamond really was once removed.
By loupe the diamond is clean, and in the near colorless range. Hard to tell color when they are set especially in a bezel in yellow gold but this diamond pops and is stronger white against the yellow gold hue. Overall it is in very good antique condition. Light antique wear under microscope tinnie tiny nibbles on a few facet junctions. Jeweler did go over the piece and verified as 18k. He also lightly polished the band but kept that antique feeling.
